My Europe Trip 2010 (Part 1: Madrid)

A Photo Story

It’s been a while since I’ve blogged…it’s been the busiest couple of months!  At the beginning of September, my husband and I flew across the country to North Carolina for a wedding.   Later that month, we left on a 2-week European adventure.  Despite the fact that we traveled like it was our job, it was awesome.  We saw friends in every country we visited, and we only stayed in a hotel for four nights out of the entire two weeks we were there.

The trip started in Madrid.  It ended in Madrid too.  Madrid was our home base, and we got to know Madrid pretty well.  Well, we got to know the Metro and the airport really well, that is.  The first few pictures are at the Madrid Airport, Terminal 4.  We arrived in Madrid at the exact moment I could’ve finally dropped off into a deep sleep…but, oh no, the day had only just begun in Madrid.

I was dead tired, but when I stepped off the plane, I couldn’t help but scramble to get my camera out in order to take a few pictures of this crazy airport.  Turns out it’s the new terminal, Terminal 4.  I thought it was pretty amazing.  We met up with our friend, Dan, who took on the job of keeping us awake all day…and might I add that we would have been lost without him!  He, first, introduced us to the “cortado” which is an espresso-like drink with a little steamed milk.  It was so good…it would definitely take a few of those to keep me up all day!

After the first three pictures of the airport, you see some of what we saw on our first day in Madrid.  (There are too many pictures to post them all here, so let me know if you want to see more on Madrid!)  We filled the day by tapas-hopping, sight-seeing and taking pictures.  I noticed that every place has at least one pig leg hanging somewhere.  The Museo del Jamon had a few more than most places! Plaza Mayor is a plaza near the very center of Spain…many political events have been held at Plaza Mayor.

The last two pictures in this post are of a tapas place in Madrid.  We stopped there the next day on our way to the train station, which would take us to Segovia.  My next blog post will be about that trip to Segovia.
