Part 5: Still Toledo
~A Photo Story~
One of the things I found really interesting about Spain was how close together some of the buildings were…there would be this incredible architecture, but you could barely see some of it because it was so close to another building. This made photographing some of the most beautiful architecture very difficult. The streets there are narrow too…no wonder their cars are so small! Toledo was full of little roads going every which way. While exploring, I loved catching the locals going about their day.
I guess I didn’t do enough research…I made a fool of myself when I came upon a statue. I exclaimed, “Look, it’s Don Quixote…I want to get my picture with Don Quixote!” A woman overheard me, and politely told me that the statue was, in fact, Cervantes. Oh well, honest mistake, right? I should thank my high school Spanish teacher, Mrs. Ruiz. Without her, I wouldn’t have known either of them.
The last couple pictures on this blog post are of our second trip to the La Reina Sofia Museum. I’m so glad we made it back to see Guernica. Guernica is such an important piece of artwork. It helped bring the world’s attention to the Spanish Civil War. Guernica is in the Basque country, and we will actually be headed toward Basque country in the next blog post. We rent a car for the first time, and drive through San Sebastian on our way to meet my good friend in the southwest of France. Oh, and for the first time, we feel well rested…woo hoo!
Tune in soon for Part 6: The Drive to France
